This Privacy Policy explains how Cali Ape (the “Service”, which includes the Cali Ape app and the official website caliape.app) collects, uses, and protects your information.

1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in using Google or Apple, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name
- Unique user ID
If you sign up with email/password, we store your email and an encrypted password.
Profile Information
You may optionally provide:
- Display name
- Profile image
Location Data
The App accesses your device location only when you actively use map features (e.g., finding nearby locations or check-ins). The App does not collect location data in the background.
Camera & Photos
The App accesses your camera or photo library only when you choose to upload images. We do not access your media without your action.
User Generated Content
You may create content such as:
- Check-ins (public or private)
- Location submissions and edits
- Equipment suggestions
- Photos
- Reactions
- Feedback
Submitted content may be reviewed before being published in the Cali Ape app and on our official website caliape.app (see Section 3, Data Sharing, below).
2. How We Use Information
- Account data — Authentication and account management
- Profile data — Display user profile
- Location data — Show map and nearby locations
- Media — Upload photos
- User content — Build and maintain community data
We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.
3. Data Sharing
The following may be visible to others — both inside the Cali Ape app and on our official website caliape.app:
- Public check-ins (if you choose to share)
- Approved submissions (locations, photos, equipment info)
- Display name and avatar (used to attribute contributions)
You understand and agree that content published on caliape.app may:
- Be indexed by search engines (e.g., Google, Bing) and appear in search results
- Be fetched by third-party platforms (e.g., Facebook, Threads, Line, Telegram, Twitter) as preview cards when our pages are shared on those platforms
We do not share your personal data with third parties, nor sell your content to third parties or use it for third-party advertising, except as required to provide the service.
4. Third-Party Services
To operate the App, we use third-party services. Your data may be processed by these services:
- Google Sign-In (authentication)
- Apple Sign-In (authentication)
- Google Maps (map display)
- Supabase (database, authentication, storage)
Each service has its own privacy policy.
5. Data Retention
- Account data: retained until account deletion
- Private data: deleted with account
- Public contributions: when you delete a submission or your account, we will remove it from the official website caliape.app within a reasonable time (typically within 24 hours); the database record may be retained in anonymized form to preserve community data integrity
- Third-party search engine or social platform caches: these caches are controlled by third parties and cannot be removed immediately by us; you may request cache removal through each platform’s own process
We retain data only as long as necessary to provide the service or comply with legal obligations.
6. Your Rights
You may request to:
- Access your data
- Correct your data
- Delete your account and personal data
- Receive a copy of your data
We will respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 30 days).
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures (such as encryption and access controls) to protect your data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. Continued use of the App means you accept the updated policy.
